Q: Why can't I share the root of the drive?
A: To share the root of the drive, follow these steps:
- Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer.
- Right-click the drive, then click Share.
- In the drive properties dialog box, click Advanced Sharing. If you are prompted for an administrative password or confirmation, type the password or confirmation.
- In the Advanced Sharing dialog box, select the Share this folder checkbox, type the share name, and then click Ok.
If password protected sharing is turned off, then the computer authenticates using the Guest account for network access. You can view or set folder permissions by selecting the properties of the drive and then selecting the Security tab. Folder permissions on the drive must have entries for either the Everyone group or Guest account.
